To find out what's happening in grades K-5, scroll down on the newsletter. iRead kicked off this past Saturday, and it was a truly special experience! The Highland Park Library was full of many students, parents, teachers, and other community members, excited to start the iRead program. It was so wonderful to see so many Braeside students and their families at the library. It was such a treat to hear readings by Ms. Biegel, Ms. Rossman, and Mr. LaCosse. What a great way to start a special program that supports our schools and school libraries! Wondering what we're learning about in the library this month? See below for the December Newsletter! (scroll down to read the entire newsletter) The Book Fair is this week!
Students will be filling out their Wish Lists on Wednesday. There will be so many great books to see and wish for! We are also excited to welcome Darlene and Larry Neumann to the IMC "stage" for a special storytelling performance at 6:30 pm on Thursday, November 14th. Darlene and Larry, also known as Two Voice Storytelling, bring story and music to their presentations. They will be performing a story called "Strawberries in the Snow." Don't miss it! On Wednesday, October 16th, students in 1st through 5th grades met nonfiction author Sally Walker! Her presentations were focused around writing tips and the research process. She also told us some great stories, and shared some background about her books. I really love Sally's books. She makes topics in history and science especially interesting. She explained that to write a book about a nonfiction topic, it's important to do some research--which means going to library! She also said that another great source of information is finding an expert you can interview. Sally told us that even though it can make you feel a little nervous, talking to an expert about a subject you want to write about can be extremely valuable. What great advice! |
AuthorHello! My name is Ms. Parker and I'm the librarian at Braeside School. A few of my favorite things to do: read books, drink tea, teach and learn in the library, go for a run outside on a super-hot summer day, paint animal murals, cook dinner with farm-fresh ingredients, daydream about the book I may write someday.
